I’m still alive i think so no, I cut the back of my leg on roof tin and it slid till it cut nerves and there was a lot of blood. (so much that i’m pretty sure i blacked out on the way to the hospital) I left me with a bad-ass scar on my leg, but i do not suffer any after injury, or side-effects (yet) the worse that happens is that my leg will sometimes hurt if it gets too cold but that’s the extent of my injury.
Most likely not fatal, unless unattended which incase most likely fatal.

My guess is no if you properly sealed the incision afterwards. But obviously yes if you let them bleed out. If the wound healed then it would be extremely difficult to walk but it wouldn’t kill them.

No it wouldn´t kill them, but they would be unable to walk if they don´t receive surgery since this tendon is the attatchment for many important muscles of the leg. Plus this is probably one of the few tendons in the body where you can hear it because it´s so thick. The daughter of my mother´s friend had her achilles tendon rip in high school once. It took a long time to heal and she is completely fine now.

August 24, 2020: I cut my Achilles Tendon completely (Yes totally) into. This is why you should always carry the trash out to your side. I had cleaned out the refrigerator (so the trash bag was heavy. I was in a hurry to go workout so I grabbed the trash back quickly turning away from it to open the door and it swung into the back of my leg. I was completely unaware of a broken wine bottle being in the bag. If happened fast. No popping sound but I did fall straight to the floor. As a matter of a fact I “thought” I just cut it deep at first. I tried pulling myself up and it dangled there lifeless looking as I attempted to bare weight on it I quickly went back to the floor. The pain was unremarkable!!! Initially I didn’t lose much blood, nor was there allot of pain due to there not being much fat or nerve endings through or around the tendon. I went to the ER and fail the Thompson test with absolutely zero movement. Two days later I had a major surgery with an Orthopedic Surgeon who told me in later in my hospital room that the glass has completely severed my Achilles Tendon. Absolutely nothing was holding it together. He had never seen anything like it before. Its been almost 1 year of recovery. Which is normal for those with ruptured Achilles Tendons. So being that mine was completely cut into the recovery time will take longer. I didn’t die but it has completely ruined my life as I am still 40% disabled after 11 months post-op 😞

Not fatal, unless a blood vessel is cut and not attended to. Wound infection can lead to septicaemia, again, if neglected.
It would lead to severe disability though, if not stitched back.

Not only would it not kill you, but you don’t even have to repair the tendon. Torn Achilles tendons that are allowed to heal without surgery do fine.

No, it would not. Its a tendon which can be repaired. Yes as others have posted if the artery gets involved it could be fatal if not taken care of.

In 2015 i fell awkwardly at home and thought i had sprained my ankle badly. I didnt go to the doctors with it until i realised i could not stand on tiptoe anymore and there was an intense burning sensation if i bent my foot up too far. The doctor sent me for physiotherapy but nothing worked. so i checked my symptoms on the NHS website and lo and behold i had a ruptured achilles. I was referred for the operation to fix it but chickened out at the last minute due to the recovery time (i am very active) I still havent had it fixed but really need to at some point as i have hypermobility and both of my ankles are a weak spot anyway. So no, it wont kill you but its a pain in the A***
