Yes.

It depends on the wife. Ask her.
If she doesn’t enjoy cooking, she might not appreciate cookware as a gift. If she’s an avid, passionate cook, she may have strong opinions about what she’d like and not like to use.

As others have said, it really depends on her personal tastes. It also depends on what she already has, and what she prefers cooking with. As an example, I absolutely love to cook, however, as often as I can, I cook with US manufactured cast iron that I’ve had for years and, one skillet, I’ve inherited from my grandmother and it’s absolutely cherished and perfectly seasoned. If I was given a gift of a cheap, no-stick skillet, I’d probably be a bit insulted that my boyfriend didn’t understand what I love, and the skillet would go in the back of my cupboard to be discarded as soon as I could.
On the other hand, if I was given a Le Creuset dutch oven, my poor boyfriend probably wouldn’t see me for a month, but everything that he’d be eating would be dutch oven made.
So, if your wife loves to cook, there are some very cool things that you could gift her with instead of or in addition to cookware. A few ideas would be:
1. Flavored oils/vinegars There are some amazing flavored oils and vinegars from specialty shops. Each year my brother gives me different flavored high-end olive oil or vinegar and I love it. Also, black garlic is very popular. I make my own and give it as gifts, along with a little black garlic cookbook that I’ve written and have had printed.
2. Either new or antique cookbooks that are unique or very special. For instance, if she loves to bake, “Death by Chocolate” or if she wants new ideas for meals “Everyday Dorie”.
3. Unique and/or rare spices. (I have some amazing African spices that I love to cook with.)
4. Does she love coffee? How about a monthly subscription for something like blackriflecoffee.com [ http://blackriflecoffee.com ]? They have amazing coffee and some very cool (if you’re into that sort of thing) accessories. The reason that I am saying BRCC instead of something like Starbucks, is that SB coffee really is overblown, overpriced and in my mind wouldn’t be special. It’s almost like an afterthought because it’s so common.
5. Unique cookware — for instance, a Tangine — with a cookbook and spices that go along with it. Tangines are quite inexpensive and a lot of fun to cook with. Why not give her a tangine, sp…

Buy cookware as a gift for the family. The husband and wife should shop together for this. Then give your wife a nice purse, Perfume, sweater, robe, or anything personal. How is cookware her gift? Are you never going to eat from the cookware? Cookware like a toaster is a necessary for the household.

I don’t think there is a general answer that applies here. If a woman likes to cook and she likes high end cookware it she would probably enjoy the gift. If she doesn’t enjoy cooking it would probably not be the best gift for her but even most people that don’t enjoy cooking won’t necessarily be offended by receiving cookware as a gift.

Would also get something that only she can use. Perfume, Jewlery, a day at a spa, etc. not a sexy night gown as that is really for you.

For some women it might but I have to say my husband bought me a set of Circulon cookware last year and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEM! I am not a great cook but it makes things so much easier and I don’t have to complain about others in the home using them and ruining them with metal utensils because they can be used with this set. YAY!!!!!!
T-fal Signature Nonstick Dishwasher Safe Cookware Set, 12-Piece
Ummmm well it clearly depends on the wife. It’s often said to be taboo to buy domesticated gifts for a woman, and I think the general rule that’s good to go by is don’t get it unless she asks for something in that area. If she is a real foodie and loves that type of thing then that would be different.

My personal opinion is no. To decide for yourself, does she cook often? Does she like to cook? Is she the one who usually cooks? Is she cooking for you based on her own choices? If yes,, then I’m sure buying new cookware for her is not offensive. If she is strongly against female stereotypes then I would maybe look into something else.

If she expressed an interest in cookware or fancies herself a chef it is fine. Don’t give a gift like that as a hint. And, if you are going to do this, you have to really know cookware. Some cookware is not well suited for the type of cooking and degree of skill of the person.
