Mora knives are incredibly affordable, well built, easily handled and very sharp knives. It is not a magical end all be all tool that can solve every crisis and unexpected predicament. With that being said, out of all the knives I have, I am most comfortable with and enjoy using the mora most.
I think a common misconception when people are looking for a survival knife, is that they want a large 8-10′ blade, almost machete like. The truth is, a survival knife should be used as a tool, to help make a fire, shelter, or clean/skin an animal. Quite a bit of these tasks are tedious and mora knives are the perfect size to get the job done. Plus they are very affordable ($10-$20), misplacing one is not the end of the world. There are many more expensive knives, heck I even have those too, but for some reason whenever I go out, or need a knife, the mora is the first one I grab.

If you would just make that oval shape of the wooden handle in the much more solidly attached plastic handle, it would be perfected at its inexpensive price point. The guard just gets in the way for many bushcrafting tasks, and the wooden handles tend to loosen over time.

You can actually hammer it into a small tree to cut the tree down, thats how strong it is. And though obviously this is not recommended it clearly demonstrates it’s dominance as compared to many other knives in it’s price range.

It’s not the best, but it is so close that you’ll barely notice the difference with better knives. However, it comes with a price tag many times lower than the few alternatives that are significantly better.

That’s all I would want from I knife. If anything, it lacks the ‘character’ of more expensive knives, but that’s not something I would worry about.

Frosts-Mora-considered to-be-the-best-survival-knife by many because of it’s strengthens in nature, sharpness in blade, right size and also for retaining its edge. Also, it is low in price in comparisons to others knife. It is easy to sharpen in the fields and has a ‘Scandi’ grind. Again its shape is perfect for general bushcraft tasks & for carving. It is light enough to carry in every place and to baton.
I have 2 Mora-Frosts knifes which I bought with reasonable prices and always serve me better in elsewhere I need. The main advantage is that they have no extra complexity of bells & whistles. Mora knife is economical and well made up. Most of the people think that for survival it needs machete type’s blade which is more than 8 inches but to me Mora-Frost is perfect in size to tackle in any emergency situation. From above discussion now you can easily realize why Mora-Frosts is regarded the best survival knife for many.

I have two Mora knives. I have used them while hiking and I find them to be excellent fixed blade knives.
They are very economical. Each one cost me less than $20 dollars US. The blade size is around 4 inches and lends itself to tasks such as whittling, food preparation and general cutting chores.
They are great basic knives that do not have all the bells and whistles of more expensive tactical knives. You can buy many of them and store them in your car, backpacks or any other place that could possibly be convient.

I agree with Charles and Johnny. I have some expensive bushcraft knives but also always bring with me my Mora knife/knives.
Although in not an official bushcraft instructor these are perfect for handing out to newbies. If they are damaged or lost then they are easy to replace.
Finally, for activities requiring potentially damaging use of a knife, such as hitting it with an axe or hammer to use as a wedge, or for any other reason, I will always use my Mora as it is easier to replace than my £200+ custom knife.
I’ve never used the stainless steel varieties, but highly recommend the carbon steel varieties.

Two things price, for the price of other knives you can buy 4 or more Moras, and durability, Swedish steel is one of the most respected steels on the market and wins hands down compared to steel made in Pakistan or India that many knives are made from.

I think that your premise is flawed. I’m sure many would agree it’s a good survival knife, or perhaps even the best survival knife under $50. I have serious doubts that anyone with much knowledge of the subject would rate it as overall BEST SURVIVAL KNIFE. Just off the top of my head I would say that the Mora Garberg is a better knife, as is the ESEE 3 or 4, SOG Seal Pup, Fallkniven A1 or F1, Browning FDX 685, or many other knives. Even in the under $100 category I’d go with a Camillus PSK. This is not to say it’s not a very good knife, but it is FAR, FAR away from being “the best survival knife”.
