If it opened easily when it was new but now it doesn’t, then it is dirty, corroded, or needs lubrication. If it is new and hard to open, it should loosen up with use. I suggest using it as is for a month to loosen up the pivot through normal wear, and then apply a couple drops of gun oil or sewing machine or clipper oil. Keep it clean. Don’t let pocket lint accumulate in/on it. If it is a proper Victorinox brand knife then you have a remarkably well engineered tool for light work and it should perform quite adequately for many years of normal use with regular cleaning and a drop of…

Most of the time, the joints need oiling, unless it has been severely neglected and rusted. In severe cases with stuck tools, use WD40, wait 15 minutes and pull open all the tools, using a screwdriver and pliers if needed. Once open, exercise the tools in-out to loosen debris,, better if you can do this in a dish detergent solution of warm water, if it feels soapy, its good. Then soak it in a soap solution for 15 minutes, then scrub the tool with a toothbrush, remove all debris and WD40, if used. Let dry, and put a drop of machine oil on the joints; if you cut food with the knife now and then, use food grade oil sold by SAK instead of machine oil. If you use regular cooking oil it will gum and need to be cleaned off after a few months. The small dropper sold by SAK will last you a lifetime, it will get rancid after 5–6 years, but still works. A single drop will last for years.

I wish I could tell you. I wear a real multi-tool on a belt, usually a leatherman. My father owns Swiss army knives, if it’s a real one. I would suspect that it’s because of the way the pivot between all the different tools is manufactured. If it’s newer, they’re probably purposefully stiff so, over time, they break in and eventually become a little easier to open, but still “safe”, so they don’t close on you prematurely when you’re trying to use them. You could try a drop of pivot lube, real knife pivot lube about 8 bucks a bottle. Then work it in by opening and closing the different implements. See if it helps.

More than likely it is full of dirt and debris.
You can try soaking it in a container of dish soap and hot water and let it soak. Periodically, take it out and try opening the the various knives and other things on the knife to allow the soapy solution to get better access to the insides.
You can use an old tooth brush to help scrub the insides of the knife to help agitate and remove any stuck on dirt.
Once the blades are easy to move in and out, give it a rinse in not water to remove any soap residue as it can attract dirt. Dry thoroughly.
Now, take a can of penetrating lubricant and with the blades out, spray a small amount of the lubricant in the joint and work the blades in and out to help spread the lubricant. Spray more as needed but not too much.
Wipe off any excess lubricant. and set the knife on some paper towels to catch any lubricant the may drip out. Keep working the blades/etc.. to help spread the lubricant and keep the blades moving easily.
To prevent this in the future, keep the knife clean and use a lubricant as needed.

All Swiss Army Knives are hard, to open. There is a groove, on the left side of the blades. If your thumb nail is not too short, put the tip of it in that groove, and push the blade up. The other tools are harder, than the large blade.
