One would assume that the police wouldn’t sell guns to criminals, correct? Or do you believe that they head down to the local gang bangers and set up shop selling them to the meth dealers there?

It’s quite normal across the world. Whenever a police force replaces there guns they sell them to the resell market to recoup some value to use against the cost of new ones. Normally these are sold in lots or large quantities to gun dealers. The gun dealers sell them as police surplus weapons. And just like ALL gun dealers in the US all buyers go through a background check before receiving their gun. It has no effect on crime. If you can pass a background check to get a police surplus gun you can pass one to purchase a new gun.

Lets see they took guns from criminals and sold them back to non criminals, doesnt that seem to be self explanatory?
You could sell me 2000 guns that had been involved in everything from murder to armed robbery and those guns would never be used to commit a crime. Would that perpetuate gun crime?
If we castrated all males the incidents of rape would drop significantly. The same isnt true when it comes to guns. There were crimes like murder prior to the invention of firearms and some contend murder rates were higher. You can give law abiding citizens all the guns and ammo you wont and very few would ever be used in a crime.
Explain to me why guns and drugs are the only things we feel the need to control not because they are a crime but because they might be used to commit a crime or cause someone to commit crimes, but becsuse they are controlled it causes more crimes than would be committed if legal. If drugs we’re legal they would be cheaper and there would be less need to steal a TV to buy them. If drugs were legal there would be no gangs in Chicago to need stolen guns to do drive by shootings in an attempt to kill other gangs.
Guns are a problem only to the extent we made them problems. Out side of other criminal activity and suicide the number of deaths they cause are tiny in a nation of 325 million. TINY. The death of 3000 people or so per year caused by anything is tiny and when you eliminate criminal activitt and justified homocides thats about what you come up with. Thats like being in on an office pool for a football game and your square not hitting in a thousand games.
Violence is a people and societal problem, and conflating that into a gun problem only allows the underlying problem to continue no matter how many gun laws you dream up. Murder is illegal. Don’t allow repeat offenders. Robbery is illegal. Don’t allow a young man to do it twice because old men rarely commit armed robbery. Employed people rob less. Keep unempkoyment low in groups where robbery is traditionally high. Treat the real problem rather than the tool used by those violate other laws.

All those guns were sold to law abiding citizens. When will you people figure out that law abiding citizens with guns DON’T COMMIT CRIMES.

Exactly how is being able to defend your self and your loved ones “perpetuating gun crime”? Exactly how is raising money for the police force so they can improve things “perpetuating gun crime”? Exactly how is removing guns from criminals “perpetrating gun crime”?

Since law-abiding citizens who own guns don’t “perpetuate gun crime”, how exactly would selling firearms to those citizens be an issue…???
The non-law-abiding citizens known as CRIMINALS “perpetuate gun crime” when they get hold of guns, but in case you weren’t aware of it, they don’t worry about whether or not something is legal (remember – they are CRIMINALS), so if they want a firearm and it is ‘illegal’ for them to get one, or the ordinary channels have been shut down by ‘gun laws’, they will simply steal one or get one via black market.
So restricting access to firearms SOUNDS like a good idea, but in the real world it just doesn’t accomplish anything useful. In fact, it leads to more likelihood that victims of crime will be injured or killed, since there are three ways for a victim to behave:
they ‘cooperate’ with the robber or rapist – they are often hurt, raped, or killed.
they ‘resist with a firearm’ – they are very unlikely to be hurt, raped, or killed.
they ‘resist with something other than a firearm’ – this category is the MOST likely to be hurt, raped, or killed.
Dishonest gun control advocates lump together the second and third categories, so they can say “resisting a violent criminals increases your likelihood of being hurt or killed” but this is like saying “jumping out of an airplane with something strapped to your back increases your likelihood of injury” if you included people strapping concrete blocks to their back amongst people strapping on parachutes.
Read this article and you will see how disingenuous some gun control advocates are – GUNS AND PUBLIC HEALTH: EPIDEMIC OF – start with section XIII and you will find it an article you can’t put down.

No, it’s not. The buyers all passed background checks and are legally entitled to own firearms. Why is selling firearms to law abiding citizens a problem?

The police sell seized items to the community all the time. Usually it’s in an auction format and includes things like cars seized from drug busts.
Until fairly recently it was completely normal to sell siezed guns as well.
As others pointed out, the people who buy these guns go through background checks and are law abiding citizens. The guns sold have serial numbers and are in good condition. If anything it helps to keep the number of guns in the country stable since the people who buy them are buying guns that already exist instead of buying from a dealer, who then orders another gun to fill inventory.

Many police forces do this.
The guns are sold to law abiding citizens and they are often a good deal due to having a low number of rounds through them.

Flint needs the money. They have roughly $500,000 in confiscated guns that are being sold online, many of which are rare or collector weapons. They literally are running out of room to store them so they can: 1. Sell them legally to law abiding citizens or 2. Destroy them and have law abiding citizens legally purchase guns ed elsewhere. BTW criminals will always have guns whether they steal them or buy through a straw purchaser. And that’s not just here it is even in countries where guns are illegal. Every cop I have ever talked to here in the U S. is in support of concealed carry with the proper permit as the people who wish to do it are usually very law and order type of people.

How would this “perpetuate gun crime”? What is your evidence of that? Do you believe in the efficacy of background checks or don’t you?

Like most things it comes down to money. The foundries that melt confiscated guns don’t do it for free. You also have the added expense of secure transport to the melting place. Plus the added expense of two officers double checking all the serial numbers before they are melted to make sure that they all arrived. There are more expenses involved but the ones I listed are the big ones.
The expense is not trivial. Places that do melt confiscated guns usually have to budget for the expense. It only makes sense that a cash strapped municipality would sell all legal confiscated property to qualified buyers at auction. Failing to do so would be a huge act of financial malfeasance.

They sold firearms back into the community. These are people who paid money, got their background checks done and all the requirements for firearm ownership fulfilled. WHY shouldn’t they?
These are firearms sold to law abiding citizens who will use them to defend themselves from the CRIMINALS who don’t get background checks done and use the weapons to kill and rob.
These are people who will care for them, use them for recreation, for family bonding time, to put meat on the table.
