Because we, as British people believe them to be too high as to be unacceptable for our country.
Is one homicide via sharp implement every 36 hours in a population of 67 million high to you?
But we’re well aware why these questions keep getting asked…
If anything, we’re at the low end of the homicide and crime table when it comes to knives; we just make a big deal about it. (And presumably so do American Quorans who think our knife crime has anything to do with our gun laws and want to make it part of their agenda but not actually follow facts.)

To put that into context, knife homicides make up just over a third of all murders in the UK. In the US, it’s around 20%. But the homicide rate in the US is 7.8 whereas the UK only has a rate of 1.2 .
So not only is the rate of homicide over 30 times higher for guns in the US in comparison to the UK, the homicide rate for stabby-stabby weapons is just over double ours as well.
The question should really be:
Why do British people talk about knife crime when other nations that have it worse sweep their problems under the carpet?

Crime is high due to frustration, cost of living that doesn’t match liveable income, and other societal problems unique to locality.
In the UK, the easiest weapon to obtain is a knife. Other than that, everyone has a fist.

People who fight do it for the sake of fighting. They will always have a reason, or find justification for what they fight against. People who find solutions that don’t involve resorting to crime seem to be in short supply – or maybe they’re just too busy trying to make ends meet.

Low anger threshold
Lack of impulse control
Antisocial personality
Psychological/mental health issues
Aggressive tendencies

Because assault with a deadly weapon is a common crime among humanity throughout our history as a species, and knives are the most effective weapons UK Subjects have ready access to for committing interpersonal violence. Because people don’t have guns. However the statistics are very misleading. Knife crime does not mean someone was hurt, knife crime for example might mean someone was stopped in the street with a pocket knife. It’s recorded as knife crime before any action is taken. So the knife may well be legal and eventually returned to the owner. My bet is most people actually own “illegal” knives. Stopped for speeding on the way home from Tesco with new kitchen knives? It will be recorded as knife crime.

Violent criminals in the U.K. tend to choose knives because knives will get the job done without risking the punishments / state vengeance that will be wreaked upon them were they to use guns.
And British weapons law is intended to ensure that knives will satisfy criminals’ needs and purposes (i.e. so that criminals “will not feel the need to have guns”).
Most weapons other than guns and knives, e.g. bows and spears, tend to be of awkward size. And knives are pretty easy to purchase — and if they weren’t easy to purchase it would be easy enough for people to make knives at home.
That’s why so many violent criminals in the U.K. use knives.
As to the number of violent crimes, when victims cannot resist violent crime then the number of such crimes is determined by the number of violent criminals on the street.
The government encourages violent criminals to use knives instead of guns because the elite are more secure this way, having bodyguards and distance to separate them from criminals’ contact weapons.
