Knives have a multitude of legal uses from cooking, to cutting a seatbelt from an entrapped person in a vehicle. It’s only when someone has intent to use it unlawfully in the commission of a crime does it become an issue. Bras knuckles on the other hand have no utility purpose, they’re intended to be used for striking and cause devastating damage when someone is struck with them. There’s really no legal purpose for using bras knuckles and comparing the two is apples to oranges.

Second, knives are tools and the vast majority of people who carry knives carry them as tools rather than weapons.
Third, brass knuckles really have no purpose other than a weapon.
Fourth, the “deadliness” depends partially on the knife (some are very poor weapons) and even more so on the user.
Fifth, weapons laws rarely make sense and mostly exist because politicians pass them to appease gullible and paranoid voters by showing them that they are “doing something.”

Because a knife can be a legitimate tool, and citizens may therefore be carrying one for a perfectly legitimate reason. We therefore can not and should not ‘blanket ban’ all knives.
A knuckleduster on the other hand has no use whatsoever other than as a weapon. Merely by carrying one, you are declaring your willingness and intent to hurt other people.
This isn’t tricky. Tools are allowed, weapons aren’t.

I’m not sure your assessment is exactly true. Brass knuckles are capable of inflicting death just as well as a knife. They assist in breaking and penetrating bone, can destroy organs and create trauma. Is that not what a knife can do?
