Quite obvious once you understand what the tang is. The tang is the continuous part of the blade that extends into the handle. Full tang has wood, plastic or other formed on to the metal tang to create the handle. Full tang gives strength. In fact, on some knives, the end of the handle can be hit with a rock or hammer to split wood or penetrate the item the knife is being used on. Half tang is just that. It is partially into the handle. This type of tang is usually wedged or sometimes burned into the handle. Epoxy is then added to hold the blade/tang in place. This type of handle may have better insulative properties for heat or cold transfer from blade to handle.

It depends on what you are doing with the knife. Slicing cheese with either isn’t going to break the knife but a full tang knife is less likely to break from chopping wood than a partial tang knife.
