You cant carry a pocket knife with a blade longer than 2 1/2 inches onto a k-12 school grounds or with a blade longer than 4 inches into a court. Pocket knives with locking blades are prohibited in both cases. I would guess any place with a metal detector is out too. No one will nab you for carrying your knife into the DMV unless you brandish it. California appears to be an open carry state for hunting knives, but not concealed ones.
Federal buildings have their own nationwide rules.

Anywhere that employs overzealous cops! A knife’s legality is always open to the cops interpretation of the law under pc12020. Once the cop decides to cuff and stuff you, you go downtown.
