Use the knife to remove a section of turf , collect small ,medium and large pieces of dry timber . Find some form of fluffy material , dry grass , lichen , strike the steel on the flint create a spark over the dry grass or lichen and continue until it starts to smoulder , then blow on it gently until it bursts into flames then pile the smaller wood around the flames gradually adding the larger timber and creating a warm inviting fire . Although perhaps hungry and thirsty I will at least keep warm and will feel better. Moisture to drink I could possibly find from dew forming over night if water from a stream was not close by . As long as you can keep warm and have some water to drink you can survive for about three weeks without food .

If it was northern boreal, I’d have a look around and find a good spot for a shelter.
I’d try to find birch trees, the bark is very handy for lighting fires and making containers.
I’d try to find a water source not too far away.
Then I’d make shelter, build a fire and put together a birch bark container or two to heat water in.
I’d heat stones in the fire to boil my water and make some tea (After all I’m British, priorities here…)
I’d then set out to make some cordage to make traps.
Now I’ve got shelter, heat, food.
I’d then start planning how to get myself out of the forest.

Walk out. There isn’t a lot of forest in the lower 48 that you can’t walk out of in three hard days of hiking without hitting a road, river, or settlement. I’ll save the knife and ferro rod for if I get cold and my feet hurt. This is bad advice, I know, but i it’s what would work best for me.

You can fit 2+ liters of water in your own stomach, and even the dry, high forests near me- true sky islands, have ample water sources that are easy enough to find. I’m booking it, leaving a note, and getting home in time for the next Westworld episode.
