What’s the length of a wilderness survival knife?

That can vary greatly. The knife I usually carry when I’m out in the wilderness is a drop point hunter with a 3″ blade. That’s plenty for skinning and butchering game and doing light camp chores. That’s partly because the time I’m most likely to be out in the wilds is when I’m hunting. I suppose that if I was intending to set off into the wilds with nothing but a knife, I’d probably choose something larger, but I’m hard pressed to think of a reason why I’d do that. My gripe with “survival” knives is that most of them are big, heavy blades, really better suited to being fighting knives. I don’t think I need a fighting knife for anything. If I’m out hunting, I’ll have a gun. Much better, and it ends knife fights real quickly.
