[Mess tins]
Searched on google images brought up this selection.
Mess is an eating hall or a tent, the tins are used both to cook in and eat out of.
A selection of the types of mess tins I have used and seen used.
Calphalon 10-Piece Pots and Pans Set, Nonstick Kitchen Cookware
A couple options I’d recommend. For best all around use I’d go with the MSRĀ® Alpine 2 stainless steel cookset (733g). It’s a little on the heavy side, but it’s incredibly durable.
I’ve got a friend whose set is fifteen years old, and looks the same as my two year old set. They last ages, can be chucked in a fire, and the tongs are easy to use in any scenario. The lid kinda works for basic frying, but it won’t cook pancakes. I’d recommend getting the pan as well.
Same robustness, but a little more weight is the Glacier Stainless Dualist (695g) which has two bowls and two cupbowls included. It’s just the one pot, but it’s handy and it can fit a medium sized IsoButane canister inside. You don’t get the handy lid, or second pot, but the mess kit that leaves room on the inside for more stuff is really handy.
Not nearly as robust, but super compact and lightweight is the Hybrid Summit Cookset . It’s possibly a little too simple, but you can’t beat it for lightweight (174g!), and size.
