I am a professional chef, and I highly recommend AllClad stainless steal made for induction burners. They will work with gas, electric or any heat source, but they are made to work especially on induction. They are not inexpensive, but they are beautifully made and will last beyond a lifetime, you can leave them to your children. Having worked with all kinds of cookware, it is what I own and use in my home kitchen. I have used them everyday for 20 years and they still look brand new. I also keep a couple of inexpensive non-stick fry pans that I replace every couple of years, because no non-stick surface lasts.

It has to be magnetic and you have to like it. That’s all. I recently got an induction stove and had to replace my high quality stainless cookware because it was not magnetic. I found a set of Lenox stainless, very heavy gauge, that I feel is comparable to AllClad and other multilayer types but at a much lower price, and I am very happy with it.
However, in preparing an answer for another question, I experimentally determined that the greater the weight of the cookware, the longer it took for it to reach a target temperature. In this test I used as well as the heavy stuff some lighter stuff from a thrift store, some cast iron, and even a light gauge stainless salad bowl. Subsequently I have cooked with all of these again and cannot discern any practical difference in the results.
Induction cooking simply does not produce hot spots, so no focal burning. You can get some food sticking to the bottom if you do not stir enough, but it is far easier to clean up than with ordinary electric cooking. And there is no burned food sticking to the cooktop itself.
So don’t feel you are cheating yourself if you don’t spend as much on your cookware as on your car payment!

If you are using an induction hob you can easily see if your pots will work, simply use a magnet on the base of the pans, if it attracts the magnet then you can use them, if not buy new, how much you pay is down to your budget of course, some are really good, others not so much, as a baseline try Stellar 7000 pans, not the cheapest but work very well
