First rule of knife fighting. . . avoid it If you can.
Rule two. . . don’t get cut. It sucks. Nothing drains your energy like bleeding.
Rule three. . . have the longer reach. In almost any hand to hand combat reach is king. If you have short arms, well. . . see rule one and two.
Rule four. . . .do not forget you AND your opponent have TWO hands. So many forget this, thinking a knife fight is just using knives.
Rule five. . . bring a gun if you can. It’s allowed. (sorry, I had to say it before someone else did)

every swing is about life or death and your mind (having so much adrenaline) is making quick reactions to any movement made towards you and any movement that you have to make. A slight movement by the other person can set you off to attack. Any hits received are acknowledged by the brain and numbed by adrenaline but you are really more concentrating in surviving and attacking. To come out and the end less hurt than the other guy. It’s a horrible experience but a big lesson in life.

General rule… NOBODY is walking away unscathed. Fighting with knives is going to get very bloody, very quickly.
The only possible exception is when one of the fighters is highly experienced in knife fighting and the other an absolute amateur… and even then, there’s no guarantees.

It’s not a game someone or both are likely to die and the adrenaline pumps like a bitch so if you do get cut you barely feel it or do your best to ignore it because all your attention is on the other guy.
Been there done that not fun in any sense.
