I think what you are referring to is a sgian-dubh. A sgian-dubh is a small, single-edged knife (Scottish Gaelic: sgian) worn as part of traditional Scottish Highland dress along with the kilt.
When I lived in Glasgow I wanted a sgian dubh as a souvenir. One of my colleagues suggested a “sharpened screwdriver” would be more in keeping with local tradition & culture.
A Dirk. Some dirks can be almost as long as a sword, single edged with a spear point and sharpened a little way down the false edge. The type with a little knife and fork incorporated in the sheath is a Victorian invention … along with most of modern “Highland dress”. The little knife worn in the stocking by wannabe Scots is a utility knife. My Scots relations would say it’s a ghillie’s knife and that no Highland gentleman would ever wear one.
