I’m semi-serious….the glow red induction hobs are ok although don’t get properly hot for stir frys, steaks etc. Those heavy ceramic plate things are a travesty…they hold heat so cannot be easily adjusted. With practice, you’ll manage most things on them, but they are a bitch.
Buy what you need when you need it. A full set of matchy matchy pans is a sure sign of someone with more money than talent.
A little saucepan, a big stockpot/pasta pan and a good sized frying pan are a good start. If it’s induction, you need magic magnetic ones. Otherwise, look in junk shops for stuff that looks as though it’s well used – if it was grandma’s fave pan, she had her reasons!

I don’t recommend sets. You’re liable to end up with pots and pans that you never use. Decide what you want to cook, decide what the best pot or pan is to cook it, and go out and buy those pots or pans only.
If you are purchasing the stove as well, consider an induction stove instead of the conventional electric stoves. They’re much more responsive, and they use only about half the energy that conventional electric stoves use. Unfortunately they’re somewhat more expensive than conventional stoves.
Whether or not you install induction, when purchasing the implements, be sure to ensure that they are induction certified. One day you may convert to induction, and only certain equipment is suited. This information should be written on the packaging. You should also see a symbol like this on the bottom:
If the symbol is missing, it doesn’t mean that it’s not suited. In particular, old cast iron and enamel ware are suited, but they were made at a time before the symbol came into use. Unlike the stoves, the cookware is not necessarily more expensive, although you can pay astronomical prices for all kinds of pots and pans.
