If you move into the 40–50$ range, Spyderco’s budget lines as well as the aforementioned companies really open up then.

Chicago Cutlery has an excellent entry level knife set but they cut like more expensive knives. I have a whole set of these and will never spend a dime more for the another knife. A shelter dog will love you just as much as a $1000 dollar dog, maybe more.
