  1. I am not clear as to what you refer to. If it regards grooves or indentations in the side of the blade, there are no reasons for these, they are primarily decorative. They have long been incorporated in many “hunting knives” for looks. The myth that they are to relieve suction when a knife is plunged into flesh, then withdrawn, is bunk.

  2. Um depends on the knife. Some are just decorative. Some are functional saws or files. Really depends on the knife. Most good knives for hunting won’t have any ridges. They’ll have a nice flat spine with a straight single edge blade. Something that for a while went out of style in favor of serrated blades or partially serrated blades. But those make poor skinning knives or even general survival and work knives.

  3. Knives are one of the most versatile pieces of equipment on the market. They can be used for absolutely anything, and for any purpose or person. Some people even use knives for self-defense, which is always a plus! However, if you’re new to knives and don’t know how to identify different types or what features you should look for in a hunting knife, this blog post will tell you everything you need to know.
Hunting knives are typically called “fixed blade” as they have one fixed blade that runs the length of their handle. The shape is also pretty obvious — they have a wide blade with an upward curve along its full length that meets at the tip.
