What are the best ways to learn how to throw knives?

I teach knife fighting. I also teach knife throwing. Hence, I teach my students the overhand handle throw first.
Grip the knife with your thumb along the handle’s thin edge and with your other 4 fingers on the opposite side. Do not grip the knife too tightly.
You must have at least 3 identical knives with smooth handles for easy release, at least 10″ long, and at least 8 oz. Longer and heavier are better but not to the point of inconvenience. Have markers ready.
Start your throw from about 12 ft. If the knife hits the target with its point down, step a few inches closer on your next throw; if with its point up, step back a few inches. Do so until the knife sticks. Mark your correct sticking distance.
The mechanics of your throw must be the same from one throw to the next. It consists of: correct stance, swing (during which you would inhale) back of the knife, momentary stop (with your weight mostly on your rear leg), swing forward, release of the knife (at which time you will exhale and your weight totally transferred to your front foot) and follow through.
Continue throwing until you consistently stick say 95 out of 100 better yet until you stick 950 out of 1,000 throws. Continue to throw a couple of thousand more.
Now you are ready to learn another throw.
