Back in the early 60s my father and a friend of his plated a copper sauce pan with silver from 2 quarters. They cleaned the tin off the pan and electroplated the pan with the quarters, I remember it took a few days to do the project. After the project was done my dads friend commented that the only difference he could tell was that the silver coating required more polishing and care then the tin ever had.

I’ve never heard of a copper pan lined with actual silver, but I have used copper cookware lined with tin. A tin lining will degrade VERY quickly if not treated carefully, both while cooking and cleaning. Tin is extremely fragile and the coating is thin. Using metal utensils on a tin lined pan is a DEFINITE no no. You will scrape the tin off of the interior of the pan and be left with exposed copper, which is lethal if ingested regularly. You must also be extremely careful when cleaning a tin-lined copper pan. Even a stiff plastic scrubber has the ability to take off the tin lining, leaving you, again, with exposed copper on the interior of your pan.
Most of my copper cookware is lined with Stainless Steel, which is very durable and stands up to any cleaning or cooking utensil.
