In some ways yes. I actually think FC6 borrows from many different games to create a pretty unique Far Cry experience.
Firstly, I like how it locks you into 1 area first and once you progress enough you get all cool toys and it sets you free. I noticed it shares a lot in common with Ghost Recon Wildlands, and not just for the similar locale.
The map is split up into different regions each controlled by a lieutenant. When you enter each area you are to meet with the guy who is raising a resistance there and you go from there. Not to mention you can find weapons throughout the map which is a big Ghost Recon Wildlands thing.
In someways it is more of the same, but I think FC6 has enough variety and elements from many different games that gives it an identity of it’s own. Not to mention the lack of a map defog system makes getting around feel less like a hassle (we all hated radio towers).
I personally like it. Dani is probably the most interesting Far Cry character we’ve gotten in years. We aren’t even counting the Deputy from FC5 (that was such an awful game) and the locale kind of reminds me of Rook Island from 3 but with more density and urban locations to it. I think it’s off to a great start.
