Kershaw Dividend In gray with Damascus blade. For EDC use, it is at the right ratio of price point to quality, for me. A better knife I wouldn’t want to subject to EDC use, a cheaper knife will invariably feature lesser materials/ not USA made/ missing features (like the ability to move the clip for right handed tip down carry as I prefer or your choice of both tip up or left handed tip down options) .. . in short, I would neither trust nor find comfortable, a lesser folder for EDC use.

My everyday knife at the moment is a Swiss Army Classic.
It is quite sharp and has a little pair of scissors and a file that doubles as a screwdriver. Since it is so small and it is with my key chain I always have it with me which means it is an everyday carry already. I got mine as an advertising gimmick from a salesman. It might not be the most useful knife, but it is a knife and is always with me and that is the whole point of EDC.
My other option with a less than 3 inch blade would be a Case Sod Buster Junior. The handle is a bit more bulky but it is just large enough to be useful.

EDC – Every Day Carry, or Essential Daily Carry.
For just about every normal, average person on the planet, that would be a Swiss Army Knife.
Now, there are other knives I like, want, need, have or had, but while some were even useful at times, none were so useful that I’d actually need them on a daily basis. Indeed, few people would ever have need of them, except in certain circumstances (like if they were out bushcrafting or had to fix bayonets for a combat charge…

I am rather fond of my Benchmade CLA. It does, however, have a 3.15 inch blade. I also have a ProTech Godson with a blade just under 3 inches I rather like. Both have 154CM steel in the blade.
They’re also both automatics, so they may not be lawful wherever you live.
If this doesn’t suit, take a hard look at a Buck 112, the “folding hunter.” It’s a belt pouch knife, not a pocket clip. But I carried one for decades and never had a reason to regret it. Sometimes I carried two of them; one with a 40 degree bevel for skinning wire, and the other with a normal bevel so it could have a sharper edge.
Kershaw also makes some very fine assisted opening knives that are legal pretty much anywhere. Take a look at the “Onion series.” The Leek is a 3 incher. The “Scallion” comes in at 2.5 inches. I have two Scallions and they used to be my EDC for many years.
Chicago Cutlery Belden 15 Piece Premium Kitchen Knife
The Benchmade North Fork. At 2.97” blade length, with S30V steel, brown or black diamondwood scales, and a great blade shape with a small recurve in the middle, and the legendary axis lock, it is a great smaller folder to have as an EDC. The price point isn’t too hard on the wallet either.

This is a good question for me because I am a collector who owns many knives. The one that’s in my pocket right now fits the bill and it’s a Dervish Comanche Mid Tech which has a nice beefy blade which will handle any basic tasks required of a knife of that size.
