Hypothetically, you have just murdered somebody, and want to give yourself up and cooperate fully with the police in a timely manner, but know it’s foolish to speak to police without a lawyer present. What should you say to them when you call them?
You can check the answer of the people under the question at Quora “jacob blake knife confession“
Don’t.
Get a lawyer.
Have him do the talking.
Get a court-appointed lawyer if you’re broke.

Agree with all the answers. Call a Lawyer and surrender yourself through the attorney. If you can not, I would say “I’m sorry I know you have a job to do, I mean no disrespect. I am very upset right now and I’m not in any condition to talk about it and although it was self defense I’m not going to speak about it until I have an attorney present.” If I was asked again I would say “I’m sorry officer but I am not going to say anymore until my lawyer is present”

When you call who – the police? NOOOO!!!! YOU don’t call the police AT ALL. DONT TALK TO THEM.
You call your lawyer, the two of you discuss the matter, and your lawyer advises you regarding the best way to proceed for your situation.

I’d make them catch me. Screw surrender. Lol. First of all, talking to the police can never help you. Your words can and will be used against you. Nothing you say is going to play out in your favor.
Next, the cops do not have any authority to deal a better sentence. That is the prosecutor. While the cop may give a recommendation, that isn’t a guarantee. Your lawyer can get a better deal if the cops have less leverage. Your confession is the nail in that coffin. That is a slam dunk.
Then between the time you are actually arrested and then go to trial. Is going to be like 6–12months. You have plenty of time in that timeframe for your lawyer to work out a plea deal without your confession. Or you can always confess later. You can’t unconfess.
Plea deal is a negotiation. The more leverage the state has, and the stronger their case. The shittier your plea deal is. So there is no since to confess on the first night and get the shitty day 1 deal.
The state wants to plea every case. It’s cheaper and it relieves them of liability and appeal when you plead guilty.
When I went to prison. The initial plea deal from the state was 10–12 months. 6 months later in court my lawyer told the prosecutor that I would start that sentence today for 6–8 months and they agreed.
Do yourself a favor, talk to a lawyer before you ever talk to a cop. And have one present when being questioned. If you confess to something in a statement, then call the lawyer. You just handed that lawyer a pile of shit to work with, do not expect a miracle.
Let the lawyer do their job, talking. You do yours and stfu. The ability to remain silent is more valuable than your right to remain silent.

Avoid overthinking about this.
Just say this:—
“I’ve just killed someone and I’m turning myself in. Please send over some police officers to pick me up, and I’ll give you the full details when I have a lawyer present. Thanks. ”

Call a lawyer first. Some will take the case and still work on your behalf. You still have rights even if you committed the crime.
Call a lawyer and listen to them. Let them talk to the police for you. They have done it before.

You don’t call and tell them anything. You let your attorney arrange for your surrender. If he’s good he can arrange for a judge to set bail before you turn yourself in, and your total time in custody (pretrial) could be less than an hour. Then, with your lawyer present, you can talk to the investigators.

Personally, I wouldn’t call them. I’d walk into the police station and give myself up. If you have a lawyer, he/she will probably not let you cooperate fully (or at all). They will want to trade your knowledge/cooperation for some kind of deal on charges and/or sentencing.
