How useful/practical would you say the Hunter’s knife from “Destiny” would be in real life? If it’s not useful, then what would you have used for a general-purpose combat knife?

Fighting knives should be a personal choice in my humble opinion

There is either a general purpose knife or a combat knife. There might be combat knifes that are halfway useful as tools, and general purpose knifes sure can kill someone. But the requirements of a general purpose knife and a combat knife ask for different blade styles and geometries.
One piece of advice: If you have to ask, you are not fit for using a knife as a weapon. If you knew how to fight with a knife, you would not have to ask. Learn how to fight with a knife first, then buy one.
It is a misconception that soldiers carry a knife primarily for combat. 99.99% of the time, it is used as a tool, and the remaining 0.01% it is just the next best thing around.
That being said, here is my opinion on the Hunter’s knife from Destiny: The game designers better should have asked someone with at least a bit of knowledge about knives. The handle basically forces you into a saber grip, but the forward finger choil is way too shallow — with a forceful thrust, you might end up cutting your fingers. The grip also lacks some beef to get a secure grip. The hole in the blade as well as the hook have exactly zero practical advantage, and the balance point lies way towards the blade. The latter is not necessarily a problem, but not my cup of tea, especially not for a general purpose knife — working over more than a few minutes will tire your forearm unnecessarily.
My personal choice for a knife that is a halfway decent compromise is an ESEE 4, if you are willing to spend $150+:
( ESEE-4HM )
Stabby and slash enough, and a heck of a general purpose knife.
Another option in this category is the BRKT Gunny Scandi grind, but it es even more expensive:

I own both its smaller brother (Bravo Necker 2) and its bigger brother (Bravo 1 in CPM3V), and I would trust my life on them without a second thought.

It is an impractical movie prop, more show than go. First major flaw is the elongated gut hook. As a gut hook, the tab is way too long to be of use. You’d have to shove the knife in half way to the hilt before you could hook anything. As a fighting knife, one stab and the gut hook has you trapped, snagged on clothing or innards. The hole in the center of the blade has no useful purpose that a fuller would do better and it creates a nasty weak spot. Why not put some real hand-filling scales on that handle instead of just a leather wrap.
