Do not repeat this oft repeated LUNATIC Q. It is NOT necessarily airline rule. It can be by airport authority. Yr Q is lunatic. Why? I had seen boards in an US airport- giving size/weight of carry on- for singe aisle A320/B 737 and twin aisle B777/B 747.
Certainly cabin is NOT NOT designed to carry hippo sized/ rhino sized baggage. Airline cannot be blamed.
I am also certain: the security authority can refuse U to carry Yr bag into aircraft. U cannot blame Alaska or airline only. Lunatic Q.
