For just a trainer? I paid around $10–20 but definately don’t spend more than $40. Balisong trainers are relitively cheap so you don’t need to throw away a good amount of money on one. My balisong (around $15) works pretty well for the price for the most part.
When research ‘butterfly’ knives make sure to google “Balisong” when asking questions or researching it/looking to buy as you will get more results, Balisong is the official name. Butterfly is more of a nickname that was mostly developed from a game called “CS:GO”.

if live blades are illegal in your place and you want a good balisong trainer then you can spend up to 300 dollars on one.
if you wanna get into the hobby don’t get anything under 40 trust me.
balisongs are expensive due to their hand made nature and expensive materials. high end balisongs can last you forever but cheaper ones would fall apart in a week or so. so going for something higher quality is always good.
I have been flipping balisongs for a while and know what balisongs are good and my advice are generally from the balisong community.
some good starter balisongs come from squid industries. their squidtrainers is one I’d recommend. if you are still new to the hobby getting a good beater is important.
beaters ate knives that you can drop alot of time and don’t get worried. good beaters would hold up for years and bad ones might fall apart.
you need a good beater starting out since you’ll drop you balisong a lot.
some good beaters would be alpha beasts(360usd) squid trainer(155usd) bbbarfly prov3(103usd)
if you feel weird spending that much on balisong trainers then here are some good cheap beaters
bbbarfly bottle openers(30 ish)
squiddy b(55 ish)
if you have any questions you can go ask some more experienced flippers on instagram or Twitter. hope this helped!

About 20 bucks. Some may be more expensive, but I wouldn’t get an exspensive one if in the end you want a balisong (butterfly) knife with a real blade.

I wouldn’t waste money on a trainer. Find a regular balisong that you like for a price that you like and put some electrical tape over the edge of the blade for when you are practicing. The standard open/close maneuver is pretty easy to get down. Going this route, you still have a knife if you end up losing interest in advanced tricks.
Amazon Basics 14-Piece Kitchen Knife Block Set, High-Carbon
I haven’t priced any trainers lately; I’m sure you can run into a nice chunk of change on one, if you wanted. The only balisong I own is a Benchmade I’ve had for about 20 years, and I learned (nothing fancy, I don’t do tricks) to flip with a sharp blade. If you’re just wanting to learn how to quickly open the knife, I don’t think a trainer is necessary; just start slow and make very certain you know the blade’s orientation. I’ve seen advice before about covering the edge with heavy tape; you could try that, but I would think that with some knives it would prevent the handle from properly engaging.
If you’re wanting a trainer in order to teach yourself the cool tricks, my best advice would be to check them out in person; getting one via Amazon would be convenient, but wouldn’t tell you anything about weight or balance. You’d want one that feels and moves like a real knife, and I’ve seen ‘trainer’ knives that were much too light, and terribly balanced.
Personally, I wouldn’t spend more than $40 or so for a trainer, but then again I have no idea how deep your pockets are, or how serious you are about training with a balisong. Good luck, have fun, and be careful!

They are about $10.00. Check your state laws and they are illegal in many states. Invest in bandaids when you start to practice with a live blade.
