Not much. In fact cutting yourself doesn’t hurt much at all, and I say this as a result of first-hand experience. I’ve used exacto knives, razor blades, hunting/utility knives, kitchen knives, scissors (good hollow ground hair scissors) and both western and Japanese style straight razors. The actual cut is barely noticeable unless the edge is dull or you go very deep and cut a nerve, or cut yourself somewhere very sensitive like the sole of your foot or palm of your hand. It will sting afterwards, but this is not that noticeable although if you cut yourself enough it will eventually get properly painful.
Hunting knives hurt the most as the blade widens at a steeper angle from the edge, and leaves wider cuts that not only sting more, but will be more prone to scarring. Japanese razors have similar properties and although they don’t widen as much, or as steeply they’re much sharper and can cut far deeper. Straight razors or disposable razor blades cause the least pain, but the most bleeding.
Exacto-style knives are neither especially painful, nor especially good at causing bleeding. They’re usually fairly dull in contrast to the other edges I’ve mentioned, and while this can make them painful it has more to do with bruising than cutting. If you sharpen them yourself they perform like an extra-chubby, duller version of a razor blade.

The cut itself does not hurt at all if its a new blade. The edge coming to a point 0° will slide right through your nerve endings responsible for pain.
Any relatively dull blade will break the skin on a microscopic level and push in the surface particles causing pain and possible infection. Whereas a clean sharp blade wont do that and will heal much faster.
Ultimately you will feel pain anytime you cut yourself especially from a deep one so please do everything you can to avoid that.

Speaking from experience, it doesn’t hurt at all to be cut with a very sharp blade.
You slip, you look, you think that you’ve gotten away with it, because it doesn’t hurt and there’s no blood.
Then the blood comes. It’s a strange pause, almost like your body needs a second to catch up with what’s happened.
It still doesn’t hurt but by god can it bleed. I found the stitches hurt more than the initial cut. Which is why I take care of it with pressure and stitch closures where possible.

OOH, OOH, I know this one. Sadly.
I did the classic slip with an Exacto, being stupid enough to have my hand in a possible direction that the blade might go in.
Drove my self to the hospital, after my wife put a sanitary napkin on it to help stop the bleeding. The nurse took one look and said ‘this is why women should rule the world, that is the absolute perfect thing to put on that cut’.
The worst part of it, by far, is the repeated cleansing. They poured this stuff into the cut and let it sit for 10 minutes. Think salt into an open wound.
Then when this is done and you think you at least have that part over with, they do it again. Then a third time! Finally, the torture ends.
Compared to that the stitching, bandaging etc. is a cake walk. 7 stitches on my thumb. That was 12 years ago, still have the scar, still get a little twitch now and then.
Rule of thumb (pun intended), keep your hand out of ANY possible path of the blade.

It’s not too bad. It depends on where you cut yourself. I cut my self on the thumb with an exacto knife while making a model. the knife went the entire width into my thumb, so I just went and washed it off, then put a bandaid on it, then put medical tape over it to stop it from bleeding. Thank god exacto knives aren’t serrated.

It depends on sharpness of the blade, where you’re cutting, how deep you go, how many cuts you make. For me, it hurt afterward, not during. I was kind of mindlessly numb while doing it.

As long as the cut isn’t too serious, the worst part about cutting yourself with an xacto knife is the fact that you’ll have a band-aid on your finger for a few days and it will be slightly uncomfortable to use that finger until it heals.

A better question would be, why are you entertaining the notion? There’s something seriously wrong with you for creating that thought. A knife cut is a knife cut, period!

I like Indigo’s answer.
Very sharp blades do little damage, thus less pain, initially. If not cared for properly, the pain comes when inflammation sets in.
After a cut, immediately wash with soap and water. If you have Normal Saline 0.09%, use that for rinsing the wound clean of all soap.
Add antibacterial ointment. Any foreign organism will infect and kick off painful inflammation.
Wrap it up and keep it clean and dry. If the wound gets “messed with” as in manipulated like on a hand, then you need to repeat the cleaning, rinsing, dressing 2 times a day.
After 3 days, the wound should be almost healed.
Some people like to glue “clean” incisions with Dermabond. You can do that if the area will not be manipulated such as on a hand that gets used often.

That would all depend on where you cut yourself. Areas with more nerve endings would hurt a lot more.
If you are considering self-harm, please reconsider.! That knowledge would make me very sad. Just think about how upset your beautiful dog would be.
It is terribly destructive and can scar you for life.
