How do we get a souvenir drop/case in CS:GO?

Souvenir Drop cases are dropped only during majors.
A major is a Counter Strike event that is sponsered by Valve but can be organized by any tournament organizer selected by Valve.
The majors used to be thrice per year but looking at the statistocs of 2016 and 2017 we see it is reduced to 2 times a year. Tournament organizers have included ESL, Eleague, Dreamhack and also currently we see PGL holding Major at Krakow, Poland.
You can get souvenir case drops if you are watching a major match either via in-game GOTV or via twitch. To get a drop via twitch, you need to have your twitch account connected to your steam account. Also, to get a drop you have to be extremely lucky.
The drops during group stages are extremely rare, but the number of people rewarded per match increases as the tournament progresses. Still a watcher has about 0.1 percent chance of getting a drop in the best odds(Grand Finals).
The souvenir cases are quite valuable in the steam market because they are rare and the guns found from them have souvenir stickers of the major that it was dropped in. The souvenir stickers are not found on market or cannot be resold individually.
The souvenir cases are quite high in price especially the Cobblestone case as it shows the promise of souvenir dragon-lore, the highest priced skin in the game. Other souvenir cases also have some esteemed rare items. Souvenir Nuke and Souvenir Overpass comes to mind.
You can buy/sell souvenir guns/cases from the steam market if you have steam market access.
I would urge you to not expect a drop and watch the game for the beauty of it.
