I have quite a selection of screwdrivers and screwdriver bits but there’s been the occasion where I was not at home and needed to help some remove an odd screw. What I have done is to use a flat-bladed screwdriver. I’ve had to file it a little to get the proper fit (this assumes you have a file or sandpaper). Hold the screwdriver tight in the screw across the points of the ‘star’ and carefully unscrew. If the screw is exceptionally tight this may not work but I’ve succeeded.

BUT if you are careful, you can GENERALLY use a simple hex wrench, one with six flat sides, if you have a full set with all the sizes in both metric and the older US sizes. One or another of them will fit snugly in the Torx screw and you will PROBABLY be able to remove it without a problem. These hex tools are often called “Allen wrenches”.
But SOMETIMES these Torx screws are actually full sized bolts, and sometimes they are installed using “thread locker”. The ones that are used to attach seat belts are apt to be this sort. It’s virtually impossible to get them out even using the right Torx bit unless you buy a super premium brand Torx bit. The every day brands are not good enough quality and you will break the bit rather than turn the bolt nine times out of ten, if thread locker was used.
