It’s more than just putting a ring on the knife. The pommel would need to be changed also. So you’d basically need to remove the pommel, handle and hand guard. Then fit the new ring guard on the knife and handle, the pommel also needs have the locking lug on it, and it all has to be exactly the right length to fit the rifle. It can be done with the right knife and a lot of work! But not out of question.

Well a bayonet has a bayonet locking lug near the end of the hand and a bayonet ring, which where that ring holds at the end of the barrel’s rifle. I’ve tried making a knife with a plain chunk of wood and a scissor balde (yes i know) and sharpen that. I tried putting a ring as well on it so it may fit and lock on the barrel but it wont work unless you have some tools and equipment. Now the hardest thing to put is the locking lug near the end of the handle of the knife. Its just simply impossible to make one from scrap. Even me based on my attempts and experiences. If you really want to make one, i recommend you buying an AK/AR bayonet in ebay.

Most bayonets are purpose built, from a latch in the handle engaging onto a rifle to the ring which helps secure it to a part of the muzzle.
I’d say an easier thing to do is buy a rifle and the bayonet which was made for it.
Just the “ring” won’t hold it on the gun, especially if the rifle isn’t meant for a bayonet in the first place.
But if you’re determined…
If the knife has a hilt you’ll need a new one with a hole for the rifle barrel.
So…that’s “take the knife apart, get metal the same thickness but bigger, and add a hole for the gun barrel”.
Next…
The rifle will need a lug to hold the blade on.
(The other factor is, it keeps the bayonet from wobbling and possibly obstructing the muzzle where the bullet exits…which would be a Very Bad Thing)
It’ll have to be secured to the barrel, which means more than likely drilling and tapping that part of the barrel so the bayonet lug can be attached.
Then you’ll need the mechanism on the “bayonet”, since you took it apart to add a ringed hilt, I’d suggest redoing the handle before reassembly.
Oh one last fun fact…
Hanging weight off the end of the barrel is probably going to change accuracy, or at least “where the bullet goes when fired”, so you’ll have to plan on adjusting the sights to compensate.

Well, one would have to determine means of attaching said bayonet to rifle: socket style(Mosin rifles) or the SMLE, Garand style lug attachments. Once that is determined, the accessories would have to be fabricated and welded or brazed onto the knife. You can use the previous listed methods to attach ring to knife.

Basically, you don’t. In addition to the ring that fits closely over the barrel, there is also a fairly complex latch mechanism in the butt of the bayonet that connects with a companion piece on the fore end of the rifle. This latch is what actually holds the bayonet in place. The ring is just an additional support. Look closely at the pommels on the ones in this picture. The M1 Garand bayonets on the right have release buttons just behind the quillon.

You got it backwards – much easier to take a bayonet and modify it into a hunting knife profile on the blade.
The other way is going to require much more work (machining, welding etc)

Add a bayonet lug adapter to the knife and a barrel rig. Be advised that normal knifes doesn’t have the strength to hold up as a bayonet. And the welding that you would have to do will in most cases weaken the knife

You will have to add a new guard and the part of the pommel to clip it to the bayonet lug, and each rifle would have its own bayonet. A bayonet for an AK won’t fit an AR, for example.
This would likely be very expensive and cost much more than simply buying even a high quality bayonet. Even then, it would likely be inferior as a bayonet.
It is best just to buy a bayonet if that is what you want.

The easiest plan would be to just buy a bayonet. There are tons of surplus M7 bayonets out there, and if you can’t find one of them, there are even more knock-offs of varying quality available, the worst of which would be better than what you could cobble together. One of the better knock-offs is from Marbles…
