Look for marks on the blade or the handle, or purchase only from reputable stores or official shops selling brand items.
Also, if the piece is relatively new and unmodified, there should be an existing model in a catalog. Unique commemorative pieces find themselves among the eyes of collectors, whom you can also ask if they are genuine.

I just checked Knifecenter and the Victorniox Hunstman is roughly $36.00 at this time, and this is the model that is most copied in the $5.00–10.00 imitation junk.

Years ago I was teaching my 7 year old nephew how to use a SAK and he tried opening a can with the can opener of a Chinese imitation SAK, and the can opener broke off the knife. I knew they were low quality, but not that low. I handed him my Victorniox Huntsman and he had no problem opening the can with it.
