I’ve never heard of using Corningware on the stovetop, but it is possible to place the pot in an oven.
Corningware can be used safely with hot liquids by placing it inside a conventional oven whenever making soup or cooking porridge, without the risk of damage. There are specific instructions given for different kinds of Corningware in order to maintain temperature and desired consistency. Making sure that they are not overcooked is an important part of maintaining their durability at high temperatures.

If you have Corningware that belonged to your grandmother you can.
The old fashioned Corningware was made to be used on the stove top. I received a set 50 years ago and used it on the stove all the time. My Mom had a Corningware tea pot on the stove all the time when I was growing up.
Here is an example of old Corningware (picture from Google)
Don’t use the French White. It will crack.

I do own an old set of stovetop Corningware, and I love it. You do need to follow the rules for use, though. No extreme heat, and if using for refrigerated leftovers, leave it out for a bit to avoid going from cold to hot too quickly. As an alternative, give any cold/frozen pots a minute or more in the microwave before moving to the stove top or oven. Would definitely not go from freezer to stove top or hot oven. This stuff is over 40 years old, and is used a lot. These days mostly in the microwave I must admit.
I would never put regular Corningware or Pyrex on the stovetop. Did it once by accident, and narrowly avoided injury when the Pyrex casserole dish exploded, sending shards all over the kitchen.
My set is the old blue and white corn flower. There is also a Pyrex product called Visions. Had some once, didn’t care for it, but my mom liked it, so it went her house.

I don’t believe I’d try it today but in fact I cooked on the stinkiest top in mine that I got 40 to 50 years ago. I still have some but I don’t use it on the stove, it’s old an fragile.

In my experience they don’t crack, but they love to burn the food. If you are stirring nonstop they are sort of OK.

Corning ware can be used on a stove top if you avoid using very high heat and avoid putting this hot vessel into cool water. Corning is designed to withstand extreme temperatures but will crack if exposed to thermal shock. Corning used to make an electric hot plate with a dish that fit on top. This had a polished bottom (like a glass stove top) that conducted heat well off the hot plate and into the vessel. The vessel could also be used on a glass top stove.

Did you know that Corning made the windows for the Space Shuttle Columbia?
They also made the Space Shuttle “tiles” that were used on the Space Shuttles for re-entry into Earth’s atmosphere from space?
Yes, some of the “tiles” were lost on re-entry. But that’s not the fault of the tiles, but the epoxy that was used to adhere them to the body of the Space Shuttle. Those temperatures can exceed 3,000 degrees Fahrenheit, and the epoxy failed on some of the tiles. Live and learn? Yep, at a great expense and human life, too…….
Unfortunately, the Space Shuttle Columbia was obliterated during re-entry due to a mishap with a piece of FOAM during launch.

I have the British equivalent Pyrex bowls etc which I use in both my microwave & my regular oven but I would never use it on a stovetop where it’s subjected to direct heat from a gas flame or radiant ring. My wife tried it many years ago when making gravy from the meat juices & the dish cracked right across leaking gravy all over the stove making a real mess, so I would advise against it.

It may be possible to put it on the stovetop, heat it, and cook with it. However, it is a type of glass. It is vulnerable to cracking if, after heating, you put cold water on it. Also, glass does not conduct heat well so your food will not cook evenly. Better choices are stainless, cast iron, or carbon steel.
Corningware is excellent for the oven or microwave.
