A trainer like this
This shouldnt damage your hand besides maybe a small bruise here and there.
This on the other hand
A live blade like this can leave a horrible cut with a small mistake. Live blades are known to help people learn faster with better technique though. So to answer your question it depends if you will be practicing with a trainer or live blade as to how much damage it can do to you.

Yes, easily. Even experts still occasionally have a bad day with a balisong. It’s recommended to have and use a “trainer” balisong especially when you are just beginning. Trainers can be a real balisong with a dulled point and edge, the handles with a fake blade, or the handles with a comb. Spyderco even makes a pen called the bali-yo (though I wouldn’t recommend it).

It is almost a given that you will cut your hands, bruise your knuckles, and form blisters when training with a balisong. I reccomend starting with a very lightweight plastic trainer. This will help you to form good habits(such as bite handle manners) without any risk of injury. Lightweight plastic trainers also hurt less when you thwack your knuckles by accident.
