To the best if my knowledge, a microblade is a blade. A tiny sort of X-acto knife. It wasn’t a pen when I was microbladed 18 months ago.

You might try a very small tattoo on yourself to see if it works. You’ll have to check to see if it will take different disposable needles.
You should also know that in most states You need a license to tattoo anyone other than yourself. If you have an esthetician license it likely isn’t the same thing. In my state to be come a tattoo artist you must take an apprenticeship and be supervised to tattoo a large number of people, prior,to starting out on some other person.
States differ in regulations. Don’t go tattooing anyone else without checking it out.

A Microblading pen is NOT a blade like an exacto knife or surgical blade, it is a line of needles usually 11–14 needles in the shape of a blade. For microblading one would use the pen like it were a knife to make channels in the skin for the hair like tattoo. You can alternatively use the pen like a stick poke style poking into the skin like a slow motion tattoo machine. There are also hand shading tools that come in different needle configurations.
It is highly advisable to never tattoo yourself at home with no training. There is risk for infection, contamination among other mishaps like just making a bad tattoo. You run the risk of over or under tattooing where you can see running of pigment outside of the tattoo or the tattoo not making it to the correct layer of skin and peeling off entirely. If you’re thinking of correcting or filling in another artists work you will run the risk of not color matching. Most tattooers are more than happy to touch up their work, generally without a fee – their work on you is their business card it’s good business to have it out in the world looking good.
