From looking up knife laws in California, this is what I’ve found:
Bowie knives are legal. As are other large knives.
Open carrying knives is legal.
I found no age-based restrictions on knife ownership.
Based on this, it appears as if you are in the clear, however, whenever open carrying anything, do not attempt to appear threatening, unless you yourself are being threatened, because even if you are in the right, courts tend to frown on those who are carrying weapons.

If the blade is in her sheath, I guess you can, but why would you want to?
If you are camping it is ok, you have a reason to have it but if you go to local burger joint with it, they might have something to say and trust me they have better steakknives than your bowie.

Although you can open-carry a Bowie knife legally in California, you probably will not be allowed to do so on your school grounds; if you do bring it and keep it in your locker and a locker check is carried out for some reason, your knife would probably be confiscated and returned to you at the end of the school year.
Also, if you are somehow unfortunately involved in an altercation outside of school and you have the knife out with the intent of protecting yourself, and the police show up, it’s more likely that the person with the large knife will be considered the instigator or the party most likely to injure or kill others and be mistakenly shot before an explanation can be given.
Its just better to not carry a big knife around with you, even if you can, in my opinion.
