Can you hunt bears with a knife? Yes, but you won’t find any grizzly bears that have knives.
Can you hunt bears armed only with a knife? Yes, you can, but you won’t appreciate the outcome.

You probably could kill the bear--if you could get inside without it striking you with a cut or two or bite that would kill you later. Not likely, though. Forget about direct confrontation!  Here's a way that it might work. You have baited the area with berries and yams. Make everything smell like berries and yams. Or make everything smell like female bear. Climb on top of a deer stand or high up in a tree and wait. Have you knife ready. If the bear gives you an opportunity to land on its back, then take it. Jump down on its back near the neck and gut its neck. You have to be quick or you may not get the chance. I WOULDN'T DO IT, BUT, IF YOU INSIST, HOW DOES THAT SOUND?! You could make an extremely long ladder like spear out of the knife that allowed you to spear its neck from high up. THAT SOUND BETTER?

Yeah…go right ahead. Let me know how it works out for you. Let's see…your puny body with  a   knife versus an enormous, powerful grizzly bear armed with pawfuls of eight inch claws and huge teeth. Alberta has had people use a spear to hunt black bears. Grizzly are protected by law.
So, I suppose that it might be possible to kill a grizzly bear with a knife. But if the bear wins, I fully support it being able I eat you and live out the rest of its life in peace.

Yes, of course you can. Just make sure you use at least a 3 and 1/2 inch blade. And of course make sure you have illegal hunting license and the telephone number of the coroner.

You could hunt them with a pointy stick if you wanted to but does it mean that it is a good thing to do? I would have to say a big no on that one because no matter how big and sharp your knife is you have to get in close and once you do that, it’s pretty much all over. The Grizzly will not only outweigh you by a considerable amount but bears almost pure muscle. For instance, I have heard stories and watched videos of bears (specifically Grizzlies) knocking the heads off of horses. Just think what one swipe of that paw could do to you? Or the Grizzly’s mouth, imagine how much pressure they must exert. Therefore, while you could technically hunt them with a knife I wouldn’t do it.
