It actually depends on your workplace.
I used to carry an ASP on night audit at the hotels I worked at in Niagara Falls Ontario. Nights there on weekends were borderline dangerous thanks to party animals with no respect for others.
Like “vegas of the north”, people arrived expecting to do whatever they wanted.
Telling guests they could not hang out in public areas with their own alcohol, they were surprised. “Really? It’s Niagara Falls!”
As if the rules of society didn’t apply because they were on their vacation.
Multiple times I was threatened just for asking them to quiet down.
Multiple calls to the police each month for rooms that had to be evicted.
The cops knew what I had on my belt. It is legal, but know that if you use it incorrectly you could be the one to go to court.
Now, as for a pocket knife.
I couldn’t carry it for self defense.
I could (and at my last hotel did) carry it to open boxes, envelopes, get difficult photocopier jams cleared.
One of the women in the office I worked in said “You are so comfortable with that knife in your hand” (or words to that effect). I said “If it makes you uncomfortable I will keep it in my jacket instead.” (I was clearing a photocopier jam for her at the time). She was fine with it, just remarking that the knife I carried could be opened and closed one handed.
Also depends on local laws in your area.
Here in Canada, if I use the knife for self defense I can go to jail.

Yes/no! If your using it as a tool, then it’s a tool for whatever, cutting caulking out?, fiberglass? As long as you don’t carry it for reasons I have, but don’t carry, I have PTSD and always nervous / scared there’s going to be another attack. Some say paranoia. Lololol. Not at all. Was pretty tuff in my day, never ever got knocked out as been beaten bad many times. So when had my first real beating was from guys 3 times size and jumped on my head as holding rail in elevator. It today still has a major effect. So first? Why even carry one? Unless your ready to toss your life away! Cuz you pull it, you best use it, cuz many will feel it’s in ya or not. And either you will die from own knife, or will do yrs for ? Manslaughter to murder 1. Either way, your fkd. This my personal opinion. Btw. Corse can carry on hip if visible. If certain length. Must, to show it. Can’t conceal I think over 8 inches. Again? Why ask. Don’t put self in situation. Take a few bumps. If happens. Cuz if pull must be ready to kill. That’s the truth. Btw. 22 and much federal. Your full of shit, sorry, I call a spade a spade. Hope had a impression on to stop and think. Cheers guy/girl. Hope never go through what I have or maybe me feel your issues? I stay open minded.

I was a Union Rep at a large corporation. The rules regarding weapons were pretty clear. If you had a gun, knife etc. but especially a gun displayed in play view in your car in the company parking lot. You would be terminated! It was almost impossible to mitigate these cases. We could take them to arbitration and spend thousands of dollars and waited two years for an answer which would be NO! Best thing to do is to ask your HR dept if your allowed to carry a pocket knife first. Do not carry the knife into the work place because you are risking your job. The crazy thing with my workplace was I worked maintenance and we were issued knifes for our jobs. But that is different than bringing our own in. The one case we had were the worker brought his gun into the locker room. He was turned in to management by a coworker who probably didn’t like him. The Union President called the CEO of the company basically begging for this guys job. The CEO told him if he allowed it and that guy later shot and killed somebody they would be crucified in the courts!

Depends on where you work and their policies on carrying knives. Their shop, their rules. Every place I’ve ever worked it would be considered bizarre to not have a knife on you.

This is honestly a question for your boss. Every outdoor job I have had has required me to carry at least a multi-tool, if not a large knife, like a Bowie or some form of machete. On the other hand, most of my indoor jobs don’t want me to even have a box opener with a safety trigger. Keep in mind that these were contractual restrictions.
By the way, if this is a self-defense question, I have never seen any laws or company contracts anywhere that restrict carry a small iron or steel rod the size of your hand. You can use these to reinforce your fist for punches and add a little weight to a hammer strike.

I live in New York state. I carry a benchmade bugout every day. Depending upon the state (usa) you can carry knives but there may be restrictions on the type. For instance I can’t have a switch blade in ny but pa and southern states are fine.

Yes, as long as you can demonstrate that it is necessary as a tool for your work, if it is, your employer should supply the knife and training. If not, you’d better be good at explaining, there’s no foreseeable need for one, it’s a “bladed article”. Ask your emoloyer how he feels….. 🤔-

If your workplace has an employee handbook, I’d advise you to consult that before bringing anything that could be considered a weapon to your workplace. Even if you bring it in by mistake, if it’s against a company policy that is written in the handbook, you could still get in trouble. I’d see what the policy is, before you bring it.

All depends on if you don’t have to be searched or go through metal detectors, other than that I don’t see why not, just as long its for your safety and protection and not to harm anyone on purpose.

Are pocket knives legal in your geographic area? For example, in New York state they are not. Is there an explicit company policy on pocket knives? I would be leery about asking directly because, if there is not, the knee-jerk reaction is “no” and/or you might be stigmatized for asking such a question.
Pocket knives have been around since Roman times and have been a common part of everyday carry for centuries. It’s not something one should ask permission to have for.
I only had one workplace “issue” with a pocket knife. A co-worker just received a package and was having trouble opening it. I offered her my pocket knife – a money clip with a 1.00 – 1.25″ blade, which she accepted. As a sign of gratitude, she reported me to management claiming she was shocked that I would have a “weapon” concealed on me and “brandish” it in front of her.

I do not know what the restrictions are where you work. In the USA, citizens can carry a pocket knife of a certain size yet I do not remember the size restrictions. If you are being harrassed by someone where you work, you need to let your boss know ASAP…….

I was thinking about this today. When I was in high school in the 60s, we only had 200 students in the whole high school, and I’ll bet there were 100 pocket knives on campus then. Some of the male teachers probably had them.
Fast forward to when I was teaching in the 80s/90s, knives were forbidden. I did disarm a kid who’d created a weapon out of a safetly pin.
Like other people have said, that’s a question for your boss or your HR. I used to carry a tiny Swiss army knife because of all the gadgets one has, but I stopped after 9–11.

It depends on where you work. Obviously if you work in areas where weapons are a concern, it will be posted.
The size of the knife is another issue. Even though a blade is a blade – a small one that is 1–2” is minor. Some folks carry a knife that could easily slit your throat.

That GREATLY depends on your workplace, as well as what state you are located in.
For example, in Indiana, I was allowed to carry a knife/box cutter with me when I was working at Kroger.
However, working at UPS, that wasn’t allowed.

I carry my Swiss army knife in a pouch in my belt… probably paid to much and bought it from Victorinox when buying the knife.
