The chances are no, but crazier things have happened.
If you happen to be trained in twig combat, you might stand a chance… but still probably not.
If you need to fight off a mountain lion, chances are that it’ll get you without you realising or would just need a bit of incentive to back off. Cougars are ambush predators, and will rarely attack an adult human who knows that they’re there. If you spot a cougar coming towards you should raise your arms to look as big as possible while raising your voice, but don’t panic. Chances are it’ll think it’s not worth the fight and back down. As stupid as it sounds, also put googly eyes on the back of a cap to fool it that you’re looking at when you don’t notice and have your back to it.
Back to the stick though, poke it in the eyes enough and you might just blind it. That’s pretty much a death sentence for a wild animal.

And I have seen what a baseball bat in the hands of a strong man can do to the head of a heifer, a half grown female cow, with a badly broken leg resulting from being hit by a car. She could stand up, but she had to be put down, and there wasn’t anything else handy. She went down, without further suffering, just as if she had been shot in the head.
Such things happen out in the country and on farms more often than you might guess. I hear about a cow being hit by a car at least once a year on average in my local community.

Like all big cats – Cougar are ambush predators. This means if a Cougar has it’s eyes on killing you it will do so from ambush. You will never know it is there until you feel it’s fangs bite into and crush your neck vertebrae.
However IF you are aware of the Cougar and put up a display of aggression with a stick it might just might change it’s mind and go elsewhere for dinner. The chances of anyone killing a full grown healthy Cougar with a stick are extremely unlikely but stranger things have happened.

Depending on how big the stick is, it’s possible. Like if you were underneath it holding a big thick stick, you could use it to stab it. A man can take down a bear with a long man-made spear from a stick as it tries to lean down to maul on your body. If you were in that same situation with a mountain lion, yeah, that will work.
