Asssuming that I already had most of the basic survival items (clothes, food, water, etc…), tools (knife, tomahawk, etc…) and weapons (firearms, etc…), how important a tactical pen would be during a post-apocalyptic scenario?

You can check the answer of the people under the question at Quora “post apocalyptic knife

  1. That dePENds… (sorry, couldn’t resist the pun opportunity.)
Seriously, though, it depends on the scenario and what you’re trying to achieve, and how many people and such-like. It depends on what you mean by “tactical pen.”
A good solid writing instrument that isn’t going to let you down can be an asset. Keeping notes on what you’ve seen, where you’ve been, where possible supplies are is useful. If you’re running a retreat, keeping track of inventory is good. Mapping is good.
If you’re looking at it as a trauma inflicting device… well, you’ve got a bunch of other things more suited for that task. I mean, if you’re down to the point where the only weapon you’ve got is a pen, you’re mostly screwed anyway.

  2. In a post-apocalyptic scenario?
Well, you might need to write things down, so a durable pen would be nice, but the point of a tactical pen isn’t preparing for the end of the world. The idea of a tactical pen is to have something completely socially acceptable on you, with which to dissuade people that might otherwise think you an easy target.

If you’ve reached the point where you’re walking around with a pistol on your right hip, a hatchet on your left, and this is fine? The time for tactical pens has long since passed you by.

  3. This is going to be a subjective answer. It really depends on how much utility “YOU” plan to get out of a tactical pen.
I do plenty of primitive camping. Drive out to a remote area till you can’t drive anymore, then hike out with friends, possibly with a canoe, and then boat to an even remoter place, and then camp, then do this for days, just with our packed gear. every ounce counts.
I’ve never owned, used or needed a tactical pen. Never seen one of my group with one.
Looking at emergency situations. Where I live, hurricanes are common. It is entirely possible to be without ANY utilities for weeks going on to MONTHS, especially if you are in an area serviced by Duke Energy. I’ve never needed a tactical pen during a many week extended emergency.
Maybe you might have a use for one.. if yes.. then sacrifice a couple ounces of something else and add that pen.

  4. I see tactical pens as being a largely gimicky item. They are primarily intended for pre-collapse use and in large part as a substitute for more effective tools when not available or legally allowed. For effective defensive use they require a bit if training and skill. The one feature some may have is a glass breaker, there are many other tools which incorporate this feature though. The pen function could be useful too.
